8 Wonderful Tofu Recipes

Tofu, you are such an enigma. You present yourself in so many forms - silky, soft, smooth, or crisp and crunchy. On top of all that, you’re healthy too! Because tofu comes in so many categories, we decided that it is only right that we feature a few at a time – the soft or silky (or both), and even a wicked grilled tofu skewer

1. Braised Beancurd with Mushrooms

Cubes of tofu – a tad chewy the outside but soft and smooth on the inside – floating in a tasty gravy made of broth, the Braised Beancurd with Mushrooms is a traditional vegetarian Chinese dish that will warm up even the coldest of souls. Everything about this dish is gentle, down to its earthy colours –the juicy mushrooms, soft tofu, the subtle flavour of the sauce. It takes no time to cook too! Like a soft and silky tofu stew, the Mapo Tofu is a famous Sichuan dish that spicy and tongue-numbing. It consists of mainly tofu, spicy sauce, minced meat, and, most importantly, Sichuan peppercorn. By recreating this Mapo Tofu dish, you can adjust the spiciness, the ingredients, and give it your own spin. You don't have to be a cooking expert to whip up this dish because it can be prepared under 30 minutes with just three steps.

5. Tauhu Goreng

Tauhu Goreng is a beautiful salad featuring a palm-size tofu that is first fried then slathered in a roasted ground peanuts, and caramelized sweet and spicy sauce made from gula melaka, tamarind, dark soy sauce, chillies and garlic. The skin of the tofu has a slight omelette-like texture but when you sink your teeth into it, it’s incredibly soft and juicy! For a splash of colour and crunch, serve over a bed of cucumber and beansprouts!
