Ingredients

  • Serves 3 - 4 people
  • 800 g beef (rump), cubed (substitute with buffalo/fish/chicken meat or oxtail if you can find it) 

  • 50 g ginger (smashed)

  • 200 g yellow onions (cut in quarters)

  • 100 g crushed peanuts 

  • 1 tbsp turmeric powder (can be swapped for ginger)

  • 1 tbsp sweet paprika powder

  • 1 L water

  • salt (to taste)

  • 2 chili padi (bird’s eye chili) - If you can’t take spicy food, you may omit the chili padi in this dish

Instructions

  1. Cook meat

    • In a pot on medium-high heat, add cubed beef, ginger and water and bring to a boil. Lower to medium-low heat and simmer for about 1 hour to 1 ½ hours until meat is tender.
    Cook meat


  2. Season broth

    • Once meat is tender, add yellow onions, 1 tbsp turmeric powder, 1 tbsp sweet paprika powder, crushed peanuts, chili padiand season to taste with salt. Mix well and let it simmer on medium heat for another 5 minutes.
    Season broth


Garnish and Serve!

Serve hot with additional crushed peanuts on the side. Best enjoyed with white rice or even baked, mashed or boiled potatoes!
