Delicious Food, Locally Grown at Open Farm Community

Dining on their produce-driven menu while surrounded by greenery is like a little reset, in the heart of the city

Think of Singapore and you’ll probably think of skyscrapers, maybe even hawker centres, but farms? Not so much. However, Open Farm Community is an open secret among foodies, with its urban farm setting and delicious food. Getting to dine on their produce-driven menu while surrounded by greenery is like a little reset, in the heart of the city.

Their ingredients are sourced from both their own farm, as well as a network of local farmers, pushing forward their aim of supporting the urban farming ecosystem. The OFC house-farmed corn is a shining example of what can be grown with just a little space and a lot of care, while ingredients like the Singapore-grown radishes show how far urban farming has come in Singapore. With a minimal waste policy, dishes also use up every part of the produce, and feature trimmings and odd ends as surprising accompaniments.

The cuisine at Open Farm Community doesn’t really confine itself to any one culture, but expect familiar local touches, as well as more European or Western tastes and textures. Dishes like Corn Ribs with Green Peppercorn Emulsion, or locally grown Kin Yan Mushroom Ravioli with ‘bacon’ made from mushrooms highlight creative ways to treat vegetables, and put plant-based ingredients into the foreground.

In the day, the dining room fills up with sunlight, giving you an open, breezy vibe, while at night, the lights make it really cosy. After your meal, taking a stroll in the grounds really brings home the fact that this isn’t just a restaurant, but an actual, functioning urban farm. In a place as built up as Singapore, it’s a thrill to have an experience like this.
