“It all started in the kitchen- I loved watching my father cook. Since then, I’ve been a chef for most of my life cooking everything from simple nasi goreng to baking black forest cake. But you know, it’s hard to enjoy good food and stay slim. Some years back, I dug deep into Keto. Now, I’m still at it. Why? Well, the Keto lifestyle is healthy, simple, and sustainable. How? The main thing for me is to read labels. And instead of restricting myself, I replace. But if you’re on Keto, you would know that it’s easier to do this for savoury rather than sweet, since sugar and carbs can be more easily avoided in savoury dishes. I still craved for breads and desserts, but Keto-friendly options were limited, so I made my own. And my friends, some of whom are diabetic, also love it. No more high-carbs and sugar in my recipes! Look out for my videos, save my recipes –join me on Asian Food Network, as I guide you along the Keto-friendly food trail."

Keto Carrot Cake (Lo Bak Go)

This Chinese New Year, I've decided to give this classic dim sum dish a keto makeover. While I've kept the classic ingredients of white radish (or turnip) and dried shrimp to maintain its signature flavors, I've replaced the rice flour and cornstarch with almond flour and tapioca starch to create similar textures with significantly less sugar and carbs. You're bound to impress your loved ones with this low carb yet equally filling and tasty version of Carrot Cake!

Keto Hot & Sour Soup

Looking for a festive keto-friendly starter for your Chinese New Year dinner? Look no further! This Hot & Sour Soup is guaranteed to kick off your meal with a bang, with its lovely umami flavors. Topped with tofu and a medley of mushrooms, this vibrant vegetarian soup can be paired with my Mushroom Dumplings for a wholesome meal.

Keto Lion’s Head Meatballs

Lion's Head Meatballs is a classic Chinese dish that hails from the Huaiyang cuisine of Eastern China. It got its name due its shape, which is similar to the head of the Chinese guardian lions, commonly found at the entrances of Chinese buildings. A keto-friendly meal option for your Chinese New Year dinner table, my version of this dish uses both minced beef and pork for the meatballs.

Keto Mushroom Dumplings

A super healthy vegetarian recipe that is also keto-friendly, these Mushroom Dumplings contain a medley of mushrooms and tofu. For a low carb option, I've used cabbage as the outer skin instead of the usual dumpling wrapper. This dish can be enjoyed two ways - on its own, drizzled with soy sauce and chili oil for extra heat and flavor, or with my Hot & Sour Soup for a festive appetizer for your Chinese New Year dinners.

Keto Strawberry Coconut Jelly

A keto-friendly alternative to the classic mango pudding, Strawberry Coconut Jelly is the perfect treat to complete your satisfying meal. While mangoes are high in sugar, strawberries contain less sugar and carbs, and can be used as a suitable option for a fruit pudding. For this recipe, I've layered a zesty strawberry jelly on top of a creamy coconut pudding to create a balance of flavors. Try out this yummy dessert if you are looking to maintain a low carb diet during the festive Chinese New Year celebrations.

Eggplant Pizza

A simple yet tasty dish that is a unique replacement for pizza, this Eggplant Pizza is a healthy keto-friendly addition to your holiday party dinner table. Using sliced eggplants as the "pizza" base, I've spread Hoisin sauce on each slice, topping them off with sautéed mushrooms and a generous sprinkle of scallions and mozzarella for the signature gooey cheese pull. With this vegetarian dish, you can easily celebrate the festivities guilt-free!

Firecracker Chicken

Nothing like roast chicken to brighten up any festive occasion. Impress your loved ones with my Firecracker Chicken, which comes with a twist that includes explosive flavors on top of the most tender and juicy roast chicken. Drizzled with a fragrant Firecracker Butter sauce made out of butter, tamarind and just enough spice, this chicken dish is guaranteed to excite your taste buds with its unique yet delicious combination of flavors. If that's not enough to make you merry, this recipe is also suitable for those who are on a keto diet.

Lemongrass Manado Steak

Tenderloin is always my go-to cut of beef because it can be dressed up in many different ways. For a festive occasion, you can't go wrong with a Manado-style steak. Marinated in a mix of aromatic ingredients like lemongrass, galangal, ginger, lime leaves, garlic and shallots, it is then cooked sous vide before being seared to get a lovely char. Top it off with homemade Sambal Matah, a traditional Balinese sambal with a distinct flavor profile that is associated with comfort food for many Indonesians. A perfect blend of East meets West, this keto-friendly meal offers an Asian twist to your dinner table this holiday season.

Spicy Chocolate Mousse Bowls

Chocolate mousse served in chocolate bowls? Sounds like a dream for any chocolate lover. My version of this classic dish includes cayenne pepper, which offers a spicy aftertaste that is surprisingly addictive for those who enjoy a little kick even in their desserts! Rich and creamy, this decadent treat is also suitable for a keto diet as I've substituted sugar with granulated erythritol. With this recipe, it's so easy to indulge this festive season!

Keto Braised Pork Belly

When a good Filipino friend of mine asked me to try adobo my first thought was it’s just a stew. Each country has their own version of traditional stew, so I decided to give it a try –and I was impressed. The complexity of the flavours in adobo was intriguing. It has a pleasant tinge of sour that is very distinct. I was sold.

Keto Cauliflower Porridge

Now if you’re on keto, you know how hard it is to avoid rice, especially at reunion dinners. Now, join in the family feast with a cool substitute –keto cauliflower “porridge”! That’s crumbed up cauliflower, boiled and thickened with xanthan gum to give adelicious porridge-like texture. It’s creamy, drizzled with fragrant sesame oil and we think, perfect for the Chinese New Year table and your daily Keto diet.

Keto Stir-Fried Dragon Chives & Beansprouts

If you’re on keto, leafy vegetables are the best for the diet. They’re low in carbs compared to stem and root vegetables, but still tastes delicious. For a Chinese New Year meal, you’ll want to make this, whether your family is on keto or not-it’s that yummy.

Keto Chicken Meatball Shirataki Noodles

Noodles are typically eaten to represent good fortune and prosperity during Chinese New Year. But that’s hard to do while you’re on Keto, so simply replace high-carb noodles with keto-friendly shirataki ones. Make your own meatballs too using friendly-fats in chicken thigh, and join in the meal with your noodle-loving family.

Keto Kong Pao Chicken with Zucchini Noodles

Zoodles, a surprisingly tasty alternative to noodles, is particularly useful if you’re on a keto diet. That’s zoodles, or zucchini sliced into noodles. Here, it’s paired with a devilishly spiced kong pao chicken recipe, or a Chinese-style chicken dish that’s stir-fried using Chinese vinegar, chilies, broth and brown sugar swerve for a hint of sweetness.

Keto Peanut Soup

Peanut Soup is probably the most iconic Chinese New Year dessert. It has always been a crowd-favourite, and now -ketogenic. Simply add sugar substitute Swerve for a sweeter taste, and xanthan gum to give it a lusciously thick and smooth texture. One bowl won’t be enough.

Keto Raspberry Chocolate Bread Pudding

A delightful, spongey keto bread pudding recipe you will love anytime, especially at Christmas. A sweet mix of brown sugar swervere places sugar, and is dusted into a spiced mix of cinnamon and nutmeg that’s all swirled with semi-sweet chocolate chip, raspberries and rich buttery cream.

Keto Sesame Roast Beef with Cauliflower Mash

With the creaminess and seeping sweetness of potato, you might be forgiven if you mistook the side of mashed cauliflower for the usual mash. But it’s not the only star in the plate of warm beef steak-that also happens to be keto diet. The soft sinking bed of vegetables too, wraps tender beef slices in tomato-sour and onion-aromatic juices.
