  • 150 g quorn meat free pieces (prepped for cooking)

  • 300 g cooked long grain rice (weighing about 100g uncooked)

  • 1 tbsp oil

  • 1 clove garlic (minced)

  • 2-3 spring onions (sliced)

  • 1 red chilli (deseeded and thinly sliced)

  • 1 tsp cumin

  • 1 tsp coriander powder 

  • 50 g frozen peas 

  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce

  • salt and pepper to taste

     

  • omelette:

    2 tbsp oil

  • 2 eggs (beaten)

  • salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 tbsp fresh coriander (chopped for garnish)

Meat Free Nasi Goreng (Indonesian Fried Rice)

Nasi Goreng, also known as Fried Rice, is a quintessentially Asian dish. It’s endlessly versatile and many variations - all of them delicious - exist across the region. This recipe offers a meat free version which features protein pieces from Quorn as a meat substitute. Fried with fragrant spices and aromatics, the flavors come together for a familiar comforting taste of home. No Nasi Goreng is complete without eggs, so don’t forget to top it off with some omelette slices!

Instructions

  1. Preparing the fried rice

    • Heat the oil in large pan and gently cook the minced garlic, chopped spring onions, red chilli, cumin powder and coriander powder for 2-3 minutes until the onion has softened, and the spices are fragrant.
    • Add the prepared Quorn pieces and cook for a further 8-10 mins, stirring occasionally. (Learn How to Prepare Quorn Pieces)

  2. Add in cooked rice

    • Stir in the cooked rice, peas and light soy sauce on gentle heat for 2 min, until the rice is piping hot.
    • Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  3. Making the omelette

    • Crack 2 eggs and beat them. 
    • Add a pinch of salt and pepper to the beaten eggs and mix well.
    • In a separate frying pan, heat 1 tbsp oil, and pour in beaten eggs.
    • Cook over medium heat until the eggs have set.  
    • Flip over and fry for another minute.
    • Remove the omelette from heat to cool.
    • When it has cooled slightly, roll the omelette up, and cut in 1 inch slices.

Plate and Serve!

Serve the fried rice in a dish topped with slices of omelette and garnish with freshly chopped coriander
